About Me
Hi, my name is Therese Brosseau, and I’m the artist behind Sitta Ceramics. My journey to the creation of Sitta Ceramics has spanned decades of exploration as a biologist, chemist, outdoor educator, artist, graphic designer and natural science illustrator. The underlying theme through all of this was the desire to communicate and share the beauty of the natural world in the fine details we often miss in our busy lives. It wasn’t until I handled clay for the first time since third grade art class, that I found the medium that best conveyed that passion for the natural world. How apropos that it comes from the earth itself.
Creating with clay is not just visual. It is also tactile. It’s meant to be touched, hefted, handled in all three dimensions which is why the majority of my work includes carving and relief work, whether a framed tile hanging on a wall or embedded in a backsplash or a mug holding your morning coffee or tea, it should feel as good as it looks.
My inspiration often comes from two of the most magical places in the country – from the Pacific Northwest where I lived for almost 20 years, to the Adirondacks of Upstate New York where I now reside. Two incredibly vibrant regions teeming with lush forests and crystal-clear waters, providing ample opportunities to observe this amazing natural world around us.
